Abilities:

Shadow Melt: Yuuma is able to blend in with the shadows and move from one shadow to another without being seen, the darker and longer the shadow the better cover it gives. It is possible for him to pull another person in the shadows with him.

Vanish: Because Yuuma is a shadow, he can avoid attacks by vanishing in the thin air like smoke. This skill is much easier to perform in his true form because in his sealed form Yuuma needs to use energy to become a person, he needs to rebuild his form and become solid again and in his true form he doesn't need to worry about such things. If he is low on energy, Yuuma will only make parts of his body vanish, it's easier than making everything turn to smoke.

Shadow Veil: Yuuma blinds his opponent for a short amount of time.

Occupation: Owns an aquarium shop called The Purple Fish (Murasaki No Sakana), it's a small shop at the loca shopping mall.

Personality:

Yuuma is a gentle and caring man who likes to spend quiet time alone every once in a while in order to reflect and think about the future. He feels safer when he knows what is to come and so likes to plan ahead both in his work and day to day life. This does not mean that Yuuma can't adapt to changes if his plans don't go as planed, not at all, having some sort of plan just calms his mind. This part of his personality can also be seen when he fights, Yuuma never faces his foes head on but strikes from the shadows and keeps his distance untill he has figured out how the enemy fights. One might call him careful, some might call him a coward and the shadow doesn't care what others say since his main goal is to make sure that both he and his partner survive from the missions without scratches.

The shadow can remain calm even in tense situations as long as someone elses safety is not in danger. Seeing someone act recklessly and throw themselfs at the danger without thinking about it first can cause Yuuma to see red as he is not keen on seeing someone throw their life away. He only gets angry because he worries about the safety of others and doesn't scold his fellow mythos without a good reason, he rarely does something without a reason. Yuuma tends to consider the feelings of others but sometimes it's so hard that he sort of gives up. Some people are just too hart to figure out and it pains Yuuma to not be able to understand everyone no matter how impossible it is in reality. Yuuma is not as strong mentally as he makes others think, in reality he is scared of being rejected more than anything. The other strange thing about him is that he is better at dealing with people yelling insults at him than the ones saying nice things about him, he can turn awkward and such and teasing Yuuma during a situation like that can easily make him lose his cool. Later on he might get annoyed and frown a lot, but it's not a sign of him starting to dislike you. Yuuma is just so used to being the one in control of his own emotions that losing that said control feels very weird.

His home is neat and clean, everything is well organized and it's very annoying when someone else comes in and makes a mess or just uses his things and doesn't return them back to their original Place. You'd think that he has a secret wife somehwere but he doesn't and the other thing that might seem odd to you is the big fish tank with many exotic fishes swimming in it in the shadows livingroom. He loves bright colors and exotic fishes because two things that he likes are combined in them. Most of them are adorable and have amazing colors, Yuuma calms down every time he watches his little fishes swim and it would upset him greatly if something were to happen to them.


History:

Yuuma was born during very dark times and was only five when Japan took part in the world war two. His father took part in the war as well but died in the battle of Midway when the U.S. Navy defeated the Imperial Japanese navy. The world was grey and red in the young shadows eyes and the death of his father had caused Yuuma's mother to get awfully depressed, she cried a lot and didn't feel like doing anything for a long time. During that time Yuuma was too young to understand why his mother was so broken and he did not want to lose his only remaining family member so Yuuma did all he could in order to look after his mother. He took care of the cooking the best he could, helped with housework and dragged his mother outside the house every once in a while. Did it help? A little perhaps, but Yuuma's mother never returned to her usual self.

After turning 28, Yuuma's mother took her own life and left a letter to her son, apologizing about all the trouble that she had caused and that she would now set Yuuma free, encouraging him to focus on his own future now instead of worrying about the past which she had failed to do. He wanted to believe that she was in a better place but of course losing his mother in such way had an impact on the shadow and he grieved, hiding his sadness from others and kept moving forward like his mother had wanted. Not everything was bad in Yuuma's life though, a certain nekomata called Kaede was the one who turned the shadows world upside down and made him become a much softer person than what he had been before. She was several years older than Yuuma and a very lively individual, something that the shadow was not and she also worked as a keeper for the Chancel.

Kaede loved living, the humans, the country, even with all the flaws, it was like nothing could bring her spirits down. Yuuma enjoyed listening to her silly stories and Kaede claimed to have fun while trying to stop the shadow from frowning so much, the two made a great team and eventually the nekomata asked Yuuma to join the Chancel as well, as her new partner. He hesitated at first but eventually accepted her offer and became a keeper. He had been aware of his powers for a long time but had never really practiced them so of course he was clumsy at the start and he was often amazed at how patient Kaede was with him. With time their friendship grew stronger and eventually that friendship turned to love. Never had Yuuma loved someone so much before, it was almost suffocating yet so sweet at the same time. The world wasn't grey and red in the shadows eyes anymore, it was a mix of every color from the pastel shades to more brighter ones.

Sadly Kaede started to get bored with Yuuma after living together for several years, the shadow himself didn't understand what she meant but the nekomata stated very clearly that when Yuuma had hidden himself behind the hard shell in the past he had been more mysterious, exciting, now he was just plain and predictable. Yuuma did not see it as a bad thing and the couple argued about it often and because Yuuma loved Kaede greatly he did his best to change for her but it was not easy. Eventually Yuuma was left alone and he could only beg Kaede to come back, but she didn't come back. It was impossible to work as partners now and it felt like the nekomata vanished from the planet since Yuuma had so much trouble trying to find her and eventually he accepted the fact that she did not want to contact him anymore and perhaps it was best that way. After their breakup Yuuma took a little break from his duties as a keeper since his emotions were still all over the place and he needed some alone time to sort out his thoughts back in order, he would only put whoever he would be working with next in danger if he went to the field in that condition.

While recovering in the human world, Yuuma discovered his fascination towards fishes, for some reason they reminded him about all the good things in the world. They just swam in the aquariums with no care in the world, some were slow some were very fast, most had cute shapes and most importantly every one of them had amazing colors. Who could feel depressed around them? Someone else might have picked a dog as a pet that could comfort them but to Yuuma fishes were the best choice, oddly enough. The first fish that the shadow bought was a simple goldfish, it had very bright coloring and in time he bought another one as a friend for the first goldfish. Slowly the number of fishes grew to three, then to five and eventually Yuuma had to buy a much larger tank for all of his little friends but he could never have all the fishes that he wanted and so he got the idea about making his own aquarium shop. And so The Purple Fish was born, it's obvious who came up with the name...
With time life returned back to normal and Yuuma felt like he could do his duty as a keeper once again and returned to the Chancel, nervous about who might be his new partner and all he could do was train while waiting for the news.


Other:

Doesn't have a shadow in his true form as he is the shadow, if that makes any sense. He also can't feel a thing and touching something demands a lot of focus as he needs to somehow make a part of his body solid again.
Yuuma can take a shape of any kind of shadow in his true form.
Romance movies and books are Yuuma's quilty pleasure.
Hates to be compared with ghosts and other undead creatures.
Loves cute fishes and bright colors.
Yuuma is surprisingly picky about the sweets and candy that he eats, for example he doesn't eat hard candies since he is afraid that he'll swallow the candy and choke in it.
Is actually scared of his own true form, he feels like he could simply vanish all of a sudden any given minute. Loosing his ability to touch someone and feel the warmth of that touch is another thing that he's scared of.

Even when he owns a shop, it doesn't mean that Yuuma goes there every day. He has enough workers to take care of it so that he can focus on his keeper duties when needed.
