Family:

Kuinala: (older brother) The oldest katara so far, he's a very calm man with a great pokerface it almost seems like nothing can shake him. He also shares a good relationship with Pumpelo.

Rurula: (second oldest brother) A short guy with a lot of energy to spare, he's certainly the most hyper katara there is and there's always a friendly smile on his lips. The man has a sharp tongue and one should not take everything he says too seriously, deep down he only means good.

Padamlo: (older sister) The proud sister that is stuck in a body of a 15 year old girl as she was one of the katara’s that found their ruler quickly after leaving the island of Pa Ronkelo. She hates it and will snap at whoever mentions her being a little girls, because she's not. She is older than Pumpelo, believe it or not.

Naoki Yamatani: (Lost mate) Pumpelo’s first love and a mate that she loved more than her own life. She still can’t forget about him and she doesn’t ever want to forget him.


Creature: Katara- A holy best born from the fruits of the blessed tree, there are only four of them in Punpun, one for each country and there will never be more than four. They are the gift to the human kind from the gods and their sole purpose is to find the rulers chosen by the gods themselves and then watch after those chosen people until the end, advise them and share their powers with the chosen people. The katara are born in their beast forms, fully aware of what is expected from them and what they should do after being born and will spend five to ten years of their life on the island of Pa Ronkelo with the druids until their horns have grown enough and they learn to take their human form. They are noble and gentle creatures from nature and will look badly at those who do only selfish deeds, it is said that if the ruler chosen by the katara becomes overly selfish and blind to the suffering of his or her people, the katara will fall ill and only get better if the ruler is either killed or he or she changes their ways. The katara will never accept a role of a ruler, only a human king or a queen is able to rule a human kingdom. They are chained by unseen rules made by the gods and only a katara knows about those rules which might be hard for a human to understand. It is an invisible force holding these holy beasts back but the gods can't risk their precious gifts to try and destroy their beloved world....

Dimension: Punpun- A place filled with greenery and mountains, these beautiful lands are populated by the humans and the various types of monsters and wild beasts. The land has been divided into four continents: Pumpe, Ruru, Padam and Kuina and in the middle of all this lies the island of Pa Ronkelo, where the blessed tree and the druids looking after it live. The four continents are split into six states and each state has a minister hired to look after the state by the king or the queen and they will report directly to the ruler about how everything is going.
The story goes that a very long, long time ago the land was covered with a thick layer of ash, there was no color or sound in the world and that the sight was so miserable that even the gods began to feel pity towards the land and so they blessed Punpun with three seeds, three miracles. The seeds grew into strong branched trees, one was tall and beautiful with only few fruits growing on its branches, the second was a lot smaller but grew a whole lot of fruits and the third one grew up all wrong, its branches looking curly and twisted and the fruits dark and dry. From these fruits were born the living beings of Punpun as well as the monsters and other foul creatures but under the protection of the holy beasts, the katara, the humans were able to spread out and begin building their first cities and empires. Eventually the twisted tree and its shorter sibling died, withered away back to nothing and only the tree growing the fruits of the katara remained on the island of Pa Ronkelo. It is said, that when the blessed tree dies, it will be the end of the world.

Pumpelo is a very sweet and motherly person who looks after her beloved friends and is willing to stick with them until the end. She dislikes cutting her bonds with her friends if she gets into a fight with them, of course she would feel upset about it but Pumpelo will still do her best to mend the relationship the best she can. If that isn’t enough, then she just needs to accept the reality and move on. She doesn’t hesitate to tell those who are close to her, that she loves them and that they are important to her because you can never know what tomorrow brings. If you don’t tell others how important they are to you, they can never know what you are thinking and perhaps even misunderstand the relationship between you two. And if that someone that you care about vanishes or at worst dies, you would just regret not saying those small but important words that you kept to yourself when you still had a chance to say them out loud.

She has come to realise, that talking about her worries with others makes her feel better and that bottling everything up inside of her and then just trying to deal with all those worries by herself only makes her feel worse. Depressed even. Pumpelo still isn’t completely honest when she’s talking about her worries and troubles with others, but she has gotten better at it mostly thanks to her first mate and the promise that the two made with each other. She’s a good listener and doesn’t hesitate to get close to others and hug them while trying to comfort them, which of course causes problems with people who are not used to others coming so close to them or touching. You never need to ask permission to touch Pumpelo though, she more than welcomes it and actually feels happy if someone is brave enough to hold her hand or tail for example.

Bare skin isn’t an issue either, since she has spend most of her childhood naked in a way since she was born as a beast and only later on learned to take her more human like form. And she didn’t have clothes while living as a beast... So she won’t get upset if you happen to see her without clothes but she will start to blush and feel awkward if you get upset about it, she never knows what to say in those situations.

At the past Pumpelo frowned at violence and thought that everything can be solved peacefully without hurting someone but started to think otherwise, after getting into trouble herself and finding out how weak she actually was because she hadn’t really trained how to defend herself before. Someone had always defended her and kept her away from danger, but these days the katara wishes to change that. She wants to grow stronger and be able to stand her ground in a fight so that she can protect her friends instead of always letting them protect her. But because of her nature, she’s still too soft in order to be able to hurt someone who is begging her to spare their lives. So she will hesitate and that way give an opening for her opponent and she is simply horrible sparring partner because she doesn’t wish to hurt anyone that she knows even a little. Pumpelo needs to be convinced, that nothing bad is going to happen before you get her to come at you even slightly more seriously than before.  

Overall, Pumpelo has grown more confident as a person and become more mature than before.


Likes/Dislikes:

+ To do handworks, especially knitting and sewing - Pumpelo finds knitting very calming and it's always fun to create something that might bring joy to others around her. It's also a very good way to kill time.
+ Food and sweets - All living beings need food to work and Pumpelo enjoys eating more than most but sadly she isn’t all that good at cooking...
+ Cute things - Little animals, adorable people, cute plants and objects, there's a long list that can fall under this category and Pumpelo finds joy from all of them. She doesn't need to own cute things to feel happy, just watching them is enough for her.
+ Clothes, the prettier the better - Because people will compliment her if she wears something nice and that boosts Pumpelo’s confidence greatly and she enjoys it. Even if it will last just for a little while...


- To be called stupid - It makes her feel bad, that's why she hates it. No one should be called stupid...silly, yes, but not stupid.
- To be unable to help someone - Nothing is more frustrating than seeing someone get hurt, especially someone close to her, and then be unable to do anything about it. It's a feeling strong enough to make Pumpelo lose sight of everything else around her.
- Crying in front of strangers - She still hates to cry in front of people that she’s not familiar with. The katara doesn’t want to always explain, why she’s crying.
- Gossip - It's like poison that can harm others in many ways, slowly perhaps, but it can still cause a lot of damage and Pumpelo hates that. So she will frown at those who talk badly about someone behind their back, even when they have not even done the things the person is talking about.

Story in a nutshell:

Was born from a fruit of the blessed tree on the island of Pa Ronkelo in her beast form and spend her first 10 years there.
Struggled with finding her ruler and arranged a meeting with the other katara's in order to find out if they could help her in some way. They couldn't
A noblewoman visits Pumpelo for the second time and demands the katara to make her the queen, she couldn't do such a thing so the noblewoman's servant knocks Pumpelo down and drugs her.
The noblewoman declares herself to be the new queen anyway and locks Pumpelo away so that she couldn't ruin her plans, the country of Pumpe starts to suffer under the rule of the false queen and the people began to complain.
The neighboring country's king, his men and katara named Kuinala came to Pumpelo's rescue and slaughtered the false queen with the soldiers loyal to her, they freed the young katara but also took control of the defenseless country without a ruler.
This change gains resistance, which is cut short because only a madman would go against such a great country like Kuina when the people of Pumpe were suffering and weak to begin with and the king makes sure that everyone knows it.
Pumpelo feels angry at first but knows that there's not much she could do about the situation at that moment, she and her older brother Kuinala begin to spend more time together and the two grew closer to each other.
Kuinala plans to destroy the blessed tree and free the humans from the gods rule and most importantly free himself and his kind from the chains made by the gods that were keeping the katara down even if it would mean making himself the bad guy.
Pumpelo finds her ruler, a young servant boy, but doesn't realise it and in order to make her free, the boy dies by Kuinala's hand without Pumpelo knowing anything about it. Kuinala wishes Pumpelo to live his dream, free from all the duties and laws of the world Punpun.
Kuinala tells Pumpelo about the strange train and suggest that she tries to find her ruler from the other worlds, lying to her that it could be possible for the gods to choose someone from those other worlds and she eventually agrees. The older brother doesn't want his closest sister to hate him or see the horrible things that he was about to do so sending her away was the right thing to do in more ways than one.
Pumpelo begins her journey, swearing to her brother that one day she will return with her ruler by her side and Kuinala stays behind, starting the final stage in his plan....

After coming to the train she was soon taken under Matthews wings, the black wisp looked after her and made sure that no one would harm her. In return, the katara took care of him and made sure that he would eat properly.
The worries of her home world seem like a dream to Pumpelo right now and she has started to focus on her future more after meeting Naoki.
She has started to suspect that her brother lied to her and that she will never finish her mission.
Pumpelo finds out, that the mission that she set out to complete can never be completed because her brother had lied to her all along. She knows that he has done something horrible back at her homeworld but has no idea if he is still alive. She doesn’t know what to think about it, part of her feels happy and the other part feels incredibly sad.

Pumpelo and Naoki spend a lot of time together and eventually become mates, both wanting to learn what true love means. His affection meant everything to Pumpelo and she felt like anything was possible as long as he was next to her.
One day, Naoki goes out on a mission but never returns. Pumpelo’s worry grows and eventually she’s so worried that she could only cry and beg for her friend Matthew to help her find him.
Matthew never finds Pumpelo’s lost mate and the katara gets depressed, thinking that there now was a huge hole in her heart, a hole that couldn’t be filled. She stays with Matthew for some time before leaving the train, still wanting to find her beloved even if it was the last thing that she did.
She didn’t tell anyone about her plans and regrets that a bit.
During her search she grew stronger as a person, both mentally and physically, since she had to take care of everything alone and by herself.
She never finds her mate and starts to think that he had died. She starts to mourn and spends a lot of time alone, trying to get her act together.
After realising, that trying to find Naoki would be hopeless Pumpelo returns to the train because it was the only place where she really could go back to. It felt like a home and she had good memories of that place...and she also had friends there that she needed very badly.


Skills:

The Beast Within: This is the form that Pumpelo was born in and the form that she feels most comfortable and safe in since she can defend herself and others without needing to worry of not being strong enough. She's able to shift between her humanoid form and the beast form with ease..
Moves around by flying in her beast form.
Her senses are sharper when in the beast form, she hears, sees and smells better than in her humanoid form and the skin gets thicker as well, making it harder to wound her fatally.
Can make high pitched noises like a fox and howl as well if she wishes.
14 meters long in the beast form and from the ground under her stomach to her back she's 1 meter high.

Numb: For a short while, Pumpelo can't feel pain but she will most certainly feel all the damage done to her after the effect of her power fades away....
Must be in the beast form.
The power can only last for 5 minutes at best, but not any longer.


Golden Shell: A defensive spell that casts four floating shields around Pumpelo, the shields will shine in a faint, golden glow and then eventually break apart like a mirror and fade away.
The barrier can protect Pumpelo from 3 physical attacks or 1 magical attack. (so 3 blows against the barrier or 1 spell = barrier breaks up)
Pumpelo’s defense stat determines how strong the barrier will be.
The shields float around her and she can control them with her hands, she will lose control over the shields if they are over one and a half meters away from her body.
Changing the shields to axes happens with a snap of her fingers.
Must be in the humanoid form in order to use.

Judgement: A variation of the skill Golden Shell where Pumpelo uses the barrier as a weapon to strike down her enemies.
The barrier takes a form of an axe and she can have two of them floating around her at a time.
The axes float around her and Pumpelo can control them with the movements of her hands.
She can’t control the axes, if they get over three meters away from her.
Changing the axes back to shields happens with a snap of her fingers.
Must be in the humanoid form in order to use.


Weaknesses:

Works too hard in order to get stronger.
Can't fight well in small places when in her beast form, she’s so big after all.
Physically weak in her humanoid form, can’t take that many hits before passing out. (without her Golden Shell ability that is)
Loses sight of everything else around her, when she sees someone hurting her friend.
Scared of losing someone dear to her again.
Doesn’t have much combat experience and because of that she can be blind to danger.
Not as fast as you might think she is.
Slow to learn new fighting skills.

Pumpelo’s name was inspired by the finnish word: pumpuli, meaning cotton.
A katara is named after his or her country, depending on the gender the name will either end with -lo (the katara being a female) or -la (the katara being a male).
A katara stops aging when they find their queen or king and will then live as long as the ruler without getting older, until the king or queen dies. The katara will die with their chosen ruler. (The ruler can still fall ill and die from that, any other fatal wound will also kill the ruler chosen by the katara.)
Likes to call people dears and darlings.
Is good with her hands and knows how to knit and do small handcrafts.
Can spend hours staring at her reflection from a mirror while adjusting her hair and putting on her makeup, if you let her. She tends to be faster when someone is rushing her...

Relationships:

Matthew: Matthew is like a son to her in a way and she cares about him a lot. He is her support pillar and always there when she needs a good friend the most. He is irreplaceable to Pumpelo and losing him would be a big blow her.

Pumpelo stares at all the different kinds of foods at the buffet with an empty plate in her hands. She looked very troubled and kept on turning her head left and right while trying to decide what to actually eat today, her long tail swaying behind her slowly as she moved her head. It was never easy, everything looked and smelled so nice that she felt like taking little of everything but even she couldn’t possibly eat that much food. Ass bottomless as her stomach was…”Uhhh, oh dear, m-maybe I should just pick something at random…?” She mumbles to herself quietly and bites her lower lip. It would have been easier, if someone would be there to pick something for her instead but today she was eating alone. Which sucked, she loved to eat together with someone after all. “....uhmmm….” The katara frowns and pouts slightly, she was starting to get irritated about this situation and then puts down her plate. “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, catch a tiger by the toe. If he hollers, let him go, eeny, meeny, miny, moe…!” She ends up picking the food what she was going to eat by using the silly rhyme but it helped her so it was okay. “Fish it is~” The katara declares happily and starts to fill her plate with a bright smile.
